Dance Jessica is a professional dancer, emerging choreographer, and substitute instructor who currently dances with a Montréal-based dance company called RUBBERBAND – known for its unique fusion of contemporary dance and break-dancing styles. Born in Burnaby, BC, Jessica started training in ballet at the Richmond Academy of dance, before moving to Calgary, AB where she continued dancing at a competition studio. In May 201,9 Jessica graduated from the University of Southern California with a BFA in Dance, where she studied extensively in Ballet, Contemporary, Hip hop, amongst other styles, and performed excerpts of works by world renowned choreographers. Following graduation Jessica has: starred in a music video of the band called half•alive, receiving over two million views; spent two months in Hamburg, Germany with a contemporary dance company called Aszure Barton & Artists in a creation process of the company’s new work Where There’s Form; joined RUBBERBAND in dance company; and will be making her professional debut as choreographer in the 18th edition of the Festival Quartiers Danses in Montréal. As an instructor, Jessica enjoys the challenge of catering to the student’s unique learning style and imagining-up new ways to explain proper technique of each dance step. She works towards building the creativity and confidence of each student and encourages them to let the joy, discipline and artistry of dance spill over into all other aspects of their life.
