Kaila is a recent graduate of McGill University in Physical and Health Education. She was the recipient of the prestigious Scholarship of Excellence for Future Teachers, which was awarded to the top ranked students based on academic excellence by the Ministry of Education. In September 2020, Kaila will begin a Master’s program in Curriculum studies specializing in Health, Outdoor and Physical Education at the University of British Columbia. She received funding for her Master’s by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, awarded based on academic merit and research abilities. She aspires to be a teacher and, in parallel, pursue research into the foundations of a healthy school environment, in which all aspects of wellness are integrated into students’ learning. Kaila has had many rich experiences teaching, including a recent internship at the Canadian International School in Cambodia, through which she was nominated for the Teaching and Leadership Award. She has also had many substitute teaching mandates at various schools in Montreal, where she taught physical and health education, outdoor education and Elementary curriculum. Kaila is perfectly bilingual, having attended the French school, Collège International Marie de France until University. She then entered an English University, complemented by various internships at English schools and teaching the language at a summer camp in Spain. She is truly passionate about teaching and developing skills to acquire and maintain healthy physical and mental well-being. Her passion has been demonstrated with her research, and mentoring experience at McGill in the field of Exercise, and Health Psychology. When she isn’t teaching, you will always find Kaila outdoors; hiking, skiing, biking, meditating, and exploring the world.
