Maya is recent graduate of McGill University, having been awarded a Master’s in Political Science in June 2024. Through the nine teaching assistantships she held during her studies, she developed a love of teaching and strengthened her commitment to making a career in education. Awards like “Most Outstanding TA” in the McGill Faculty of Arts and hundreds of positive student reviews attest to Maya’s dedication to fostering engaging, empathetic, and enthusiastic learning environments. Students feel heard, valued, and inspired to approach new material with curiosity and agency in her facilitatory style of instruction. Maya brings both a strong theoretical background and diverse practical experience to teaching. She wrote two academic theses on peace pedagogy, and has worked as a peer French tutor, ESL instructor, company trainer, course grader, art instructor, and professional tutor. Her experience ranges from pre-K to upper university, and she thrives working one-on-one or with small groups of students. In addition to her subject expertise in Political Science, Maya’s favorite teaching activities include essay-writing and editing, research guidance, application prep, and academic and career advising. She excels at finding what motivates students and providing the practical and emotional support necessary to achieve their goals. Maya’s own goals include pursuing either a second Master’s or PhD in Education, in order to continue her research on peace education and open more avenues for sharing her passion with the world.
